Are you a proactive and analytical professional with a passion for improving how organisations work?
\nDo you enjoy working with people to understand processes, solve problems, and drive better outcomes?
\nWe’re looking for a Business Analyst to join our IT team on a 12-month fixed term basis, helping us strengthen how we understand, document and improve business processes across SOSE.
\nAbout Us
\nSouth of Scotland Enterprise (also known as SOSE) is the dedicated Economic and Community Development Agency for the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. We were established by the Scottish Government and represent a fresh approach to driving growth across a very special region in a way that benefits all.
\nWe are the first of Scotland’s public agencies to promote a wider view of the economy and how it impacts all we do. Jobs, businesses, communities and the environment are all equally important to us. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to fulfil their ambitions, no matter who or where they are.
\nWhat You’ll Do
\nYou’ll act as a key link between business teams and digital delivery, helping to ensure that processes are clearly defined, well understood and consistently applied across the organisation. A core part of the role will involve mapping and documenting end-to-end business processes, working closely with stakeholders to understand how things operate in practice.
\nYou’ll engage with colleagues across teams to identify inefficiencies, risks and opportunities for improvement, supporting the development of As-Is and To-Be views alongside structured gap analysis. This will involve capturing processes in appropriate digital tools and systems, ensuring they are accurate, accessible and aligned to organisational standards.
\nThrough your work, you’ll provide practical, evidence-based insights that support decision-making and drive improvements. You’ll also facilitate workshops and contribute to requirements gathering, helping to shape solutions that are grounded in real business needs.
\nWorking closely with digital teams, you’ll support the delivery of change and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring that solutions are fit for purpose and reflect how the organisation needs to operate both now and in the future.
\nWhat We’re Looking For
\nWe’re looking for someone with solid experience working as a Business Analyst, or in a similar role, who can demonstrate a strong track record in process mapping and continuous improvement. You’ll have supported change or transformation initiatives and bring a clear understanding of how systems, data and business processes interact. Experience of using tools to document, analyse and manage processes will be important, helping to ensure work is structured, consistent and easy to communicate.
\nYou’ll be confident engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, with strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across teams and at senior levels. A naturally analytical mindset, combined with attention to detail, will enable you to break down complex problems and present information in a clear, logical way. You should also be comfortable working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment where priorities may shift and different perspectives need to be balanced.
\nIdeally, you’ll bring experience from the public sector or another complex organisational setting, where governance, structure and stakeholder dynamics are key considerations. Familiarity with recognised process modelling approaches, such as BPMN or Lean, would be advantageous, as would experience working with CRM systems or supporting digital delivery activity.
\nWhat We’ll Offer You
\nWe offer a competitive and varied reward package, designed to cover your wellbeing, your lifestyle, your working life and your future, including 43 days* holiday annually and a generous pension contribution. Our salary ranges are designed to be competitive and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range, except in exceptional circumstances. We want to make sure that what we offer allows you to cultivate a healthy work/life balance.
\n*based on a 7 hour day
\nAt South of Scotland Enterprise, we celebrate and support differences. We are an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, colour, ancestral heritage, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender identity and expression, or veteran status. If you need any adjustments to support your application, such as information in alternative formats or special requirements to access our buildings, or if you’re eligible under The Disability Confident Scheme please contact us and we’ll do all we can to support you.
\nWe operate a hybrid working model balancing working from home with attendance at the office to meet the needs of our employees, our teams and our clients. We do require employees to attend meetings/client visits in the region in person on a regular basis.
\nThis role is fixed term and full time, although we will consider alternative working patterns.
\nWe are Inclusive, Responsible and Bold, and we’re committed to delivering meaningful impact for the South of Scotland.
